#laithalexanderdenton has new demands. Chief among them is that he only wears tights that look like something Eddie Van Halen would wear while performing on stage. Second demand is that he eats his ice cream on the floor, next to the water bottles.
Wesal Suleiman ad-Daher, from Raqqa, #Syria, winced in pain as she held her son in the treatment room at the Basha'ir hospital in Tripoli, while a nurse injected her Leishmaniasis lesions with Glucantime, the drug used to treat the disease. She and her children, all of who were infected with Leishmaniasis, sometimes referred to as "Aleppo Boil," in Syria, visit the hospital twice per week in order to receive treatment for the disease.
Leishmaniasis is a skin lesion caused by a parasite that is transmitted through the bite of a sand fly. The disease has spiked in Syria since the civil war there began, and has spread throughout the refugee diaspora in Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan. Lesions typically appear months or even a year after the bite took place. Despite its growing prevalence Syria where public sanitation infrastructure has been badly damaged, relatively little is known about the disease and little research has been done, due to the fact that it is not a life threatening ailment, and it primarily disfigures the poor. It's rare to see an armed member of #hezbollah in #lebanon. It's even more rare to be allowed to photograph one. On a trip to the southern border organized by Hezbollah's media office earlier this week, these guys were standing in an orange grove just shy of the blue line. They posed casually with assorted small arms and one MANPAD on display as journalists drove past, in a small theatrical violation of UN resolution 1701. Its always interesting for me, as a journalist, to see what Hezbollah decides to project, as all of their large media events are usually choreographed, and fine tuned to communicate specific messages to the world, and their neighbors.
